Babycenter blog

There a pretty fierce debate raging in the babycenter community right now over this issue:Do you or don you wear pajamas in public? The funny thing is, if you believe the poll, the majority are staunchly against it, 3 to 1.But then if you read the comments, a very different picture emerges.

It split at least 50/50 on those that do, and think it ok, and those like me that think it, well, looks kinda slovenly.Ducks to avoid knives thrown by public pj wearers.

I in the group that just doesn find it acceptable. But then, there a lot about public fashion that i just don find acceptable.Tight or trashed sweatpants.Tight or short shirts on people that are tad too big for that size. (For the record, i think that any size can look stylish and classy; You just have to know how to dress your body, and i learning myself. )Jeans waistbands below the butt.Men undershirts(Referred to by a name i find highly offensive)Worn as shirts.Thong straps peeking over jeans waistbands. And those slipper shoe things, that are in bright colors and see through but only cover the front of your foot.Eeewww.

No, i don get all debutanted up to take my kids to the grocery store. But i have enough self respect, and respect for those around me, to have on clean clothes, no visible undergarments, and no bulging or visible muffin top.I mean, at the very least, i trying to prevent on aisle twelve from someone that lost their cookies looking at me.

With my sometimes crazy, sometimes unruly boy, and my cute little girl, i get enough attention in public, thank you very much.I get enough whispers about how i handle jacob.I don need any comments about how i could stand to lose a few pounds because i wearing my af sweats from 40 pounds ago;Don need any whispers about how maybe i should do laundry once in a while; And certainly don want any attention brought to the shabby state of my pajamas, especially since i aim for comfort while sleeping on a quarter of the mattress. But that my take on it.

What about you, jammies in public?Or simply abhor the thought?

I don wear pjs in the conventional sense, so i do wear my pjs in public. But i am talking softee shorts and a tank in the summer and sweat pants and a tee or sweatshirt in the winter. And there are certain things that i may wear to sleep in that i would never leave the house in!I say keep your plaid flannel pj pants in the house but feel free to wear comfies, that fit and cover all the places that should be covered, where ever you like.I guess it just a tough issue because some people define pjs differently.

I sometimes wear leggings and a long sleeve t shirt to sleep in.If i going out i throw on a comfy skirt and a bra really i wearing my jammies! And i think that awesome.I may look slightly more put together than i did when i woke up but still comfortable and that what is important to me.

I also do wear(Cute)Sweats in public(No elastic ankles! )I really don think it matters who wears what in public as long as they are comfortable.

I may not approve of everyone fashion sense but i really have too much on my plate to add fashion police to it.

Stacey, it usually takes a few months(For me anyway)To get to the point where i don need maternity clothes in public. This last pregnancy, i bought a lot of regular shirts like stretchy tanks and baby dolls that could be worn either.Don feel bad.

The people in my town that wear jammies in public aren harried moms. They mostly girls from about 13 25, and they obviously wearing jammies and slippers, and the way they wear them is just not appropriate or clean

I guess that my biggest beef, is that people just think it ok to wear smelly, dirty clothes out, even when visiting the grocery store. Those late night runs by myself are usually in jeans and a baggy sweatshirt, but still clean and mostly presentable.

Emily, i worn dirty clothes just about anywhere. No one has ever said boo to me about it;I doubt anyone even noticed most of the time. (Smelly, that a little gross, but whatever. )My point is, your comfort level is your comfort level.Theirs is theirs.Maybe it having grown up and lived most my life in ca, but out here, there are much worse things seen in public than jammies and slippers! As long as people are not naked, or near naked, i okay with whatever they wearing. In fact i seen some really fashionable, brand new tops and dresses on some women that showed so much cleavage, and some skirts that showed so much leg, i much rather have seen their jammies!I take modest over stylish or even clean any day.

Ok, i don feel the need like most to describe what i sleep in.My opinion is that you know what department you bought your clothes from.If they were from sleepwear, that what they are for.It a total sin in my opinion to wear it in public, no matter what time it is or how long you going to be there!

If you really having an issue about your clothes being uncomfortable, ralph lauren uomo tuta maybe you should look into natural fabrics! This is a lame excuse and you all know it!

Seriously, take some pride in your appearance!Night clothes are usually not made to conceal undergarments or be very flattering to the figure anyway. Why would you want to look like you just rolled out of bed and grabbed your car keys? What if you run into your boss or in laws the president?

I do not wear pajamas in public.I will wear yoga pants or sweatpants on occasion(So not officially pajamas, but comfortable enough to be)If i have just worked out or am spending most of the day at home and just need to run to target or somewhere low key.I think the plaid and printed pajama pants look sloppy, but it doesn bother me when others wear them.It just my personal choice not to.

I love this article, though!I think it well written and do notice people wearing all of the things she mentions, so it made me laugh.I don think any of these fashion victims are doing any favors to themselves for wearing these things but i really only care about what my kids and i are wearing.

Wow there are a lot of comments about this who would have thought.I quite often feed my horses, in my backyard, in plain sight of my neighbors, if they happen to be out there.I just roll ralph lauren uomo city polo out of bed slip some shoes on and go out, hair unbrushed, teeth unbrushed and all, does that count.I worn workout pants to the store for short trips but pjs only once to the circle k in the middle of the night to get milk for the baby.Prebaby i didn wear pjs, so obviously not.For the most part i wear jeans and a clean t shirt to the store.I will usually change my shirt if i have horse dirt on it but frankly not always.Kinda depends on where i going.I agree with the clean and covered crowd though.I don want to see anyone crack or muffin top or smell them.I used to think it was kinda funny to see young girls in pj and slippers at the store but now i really don pay attention.I think they are just having fun.

I gone into my garden(Sort of in view of the road)In my robe before, but other than that i would never go out without showering and dressing(Ok, maybe very occasionally without showering, lol).I don care if other people wear their pajamas though. My biggest clothes sin though is that since having 2 kids i have totally ralph lauren italia shop lost my butt, lol, it is completely flat, and i have a problem with my jeans falling down in the back when i sit down blush, i hate it, but i just can seem to get them to stay up!I think i need to go and buy a whole lot of high waisted jeans, but am too broke at the moment!

Anyway, that a bit off topic, but my take is, wouldn do it, don care if others do.

I used to wear jammie bottoms with a t or sweatshirt all the time, everywhere i was about 30!Bad, i know and sadly the main reason that i stopped wearing them everywhere is that my dd told me not to.A couple yrs ago when she was 5 and in kindergarten, she told me i was too old to go out in public like that!Lol i just hadn given it much thought but she right.I do still wear the jammies to the school bus stop 2 houses down and to grab my mail but not out to the store or to pick the kids up at school.Doesn really bother me to see others in them though i do think by the time we hit 30, we are too old for it!

I wear sweatpants and a t shirt(No undergarments)To bed but i never even think about leaving the house that way!Even in a hurry, i at the very least put a bra undies under it, and ditch the sweats for jeans.I mean, unless you really ill, it really not that difficult to dress yourself in the morning, is it?As for my kiddo he only 21mo, so sometimes when he sick, or olo ralph lauren donna prezzo if i in a very very big hurry, he goes out in footie pjs, but i figure until he in kindergarten he can get away with it otherwise no.I all for dressing(Tastefully when possible), in your own size, and remembering that underwear are to wear UNDER your clothes.Shrug jmho.

I don really understand the reference to feeding the trolls, because the article is inviting people to share their opinions.I do think we seeing two different situations:Teens who wear pjs in public to rebel in a totally safe way(They would be thrilled if they knew how much some of us disapproved of their bunny slippers)And grown ups who run out to the supermarket without dressing properly.Personally i don care about either.I was a pajama wearing teen, and i did so because i frankly didn care what other people thought of me, peers or adults;I didn wear those pjs to bed afterwards, though, and you can assume these teens do either.I disapprove of a lot of things that grown ups wear these days, but i have learned not to judge. At least out loud. (My personal least fave:Fat indie rock boys wearing tight t shirts.Do you get tossed out of the club if they can see your belly button impression? )Besides, you don know what going on with that grown up;I for one have a physical condition that can make it very hard indeed to get properly dressed, and if my husband not home, i can always manage a bra.Why it everyone business what any stranger is wearing, i will never understand comment >

As a college student, i am pretty against the pjs in public thing.Sometimes, for early morning classes, i will just throw on clean sweatpants or soffee shorts, a clean tank top with a hoodie, pull my hair back, wash my face, and brush my teeth.I figured i shower when i get back. What really bothers me are the people who roll out of bed, grab their books, and go without any regard to personal care whatsoever. And then they will spend the entire day like that, fuzzy slippers and all.At that point, it not even a matter of looking bad, it about taking basic pride in one appearance.Even if you can manage well fitting clothes and make up, it is possible to have a clean top and some deodorant for going out in.

Personal pet peeve of mine:Women in short skirts who haven shaved their legs in what seems like weeks. It just unsightly.Sometimes if i feel like it i will wear my house shoes to 7 11 or to go hang at a friends house, depends on my mood(And the weather).I like to look cute and be comfy at the same time. But in certain circumstances when you just need to go somewhere real quick i don want to bother putting on jeans and tennis shoes.By the time i done doing that, i could have been back, especially w/ a 2 yr old in tow.Other people can wear whatever, it doesn bother me, as long as i don see anything i don want to see.For instance, i was at a casino and this guy was digging in his pockets for money and wasn wearing a belt needless to say, just say no to crack!
